Chapter 1 — Preface & Reader’s Guide
Volume: Model Card Template v1.0
Section Title: Chapter 1 — Preface & Reader’s Guide
I. Purpose & Audience
- Purpose: provide a compliance-oriented model specification for engineering releases to ensure reproducibility, auditability, and rollback, aligned with the Data/Parameter/Error/Pipeline volumes.
- Audience: model R&D and evaluation, data & metrology governance, compliance and risk owners, operations & release engineering teams.
II. Scope & Responsibility
- Scope: model overview & dependencies, architecture & control equations, training protocol & hyperparameters, error budget & uncertainty, evaluation & comparative scoring, bias/ethics/safety, deployment interfaces & performance, monitoring/drift/rollback, and appendices.
- Responsibility boundaries: consistency with Dataset Card Template v1.0 (data side), Parameter Registration Card Template v1.0 (parameter freshness & versioning), Error Budget Card Template v1.0 (uncertainty & covariance), and Pipeline Card Template v1.0 (execution & release).
III. Terms & Numbering
- Use international notation for terms & symbols; citations use “volume + version + anchor (P/S/M/I)”, anchor coverage ≥ 90%.
- Unified numbering: Postulates Pxx-?, Minimal Equations Sxx-?, Metrology Processes Mx-?, Implementation Bindings Ixx-?.
- Conflict names prohibited: T_fil (tension) ≠ T_trans (transmittance); n (number density) ≠ n_eff (effective refractive index); forbid bare c, T, n.
IV. Mathematical & Path Conventions
- Any expression with division/integrals/composites must be parenthesized and declare path gamma(ell) and measure d ell.
- Path-unified forms (two equivalent):
T_arr = ( 1 / c_ref ) * ( ∫ n_eff d ell )
T_arr = ( ∫ ( n_eff / c_ref ) d ell )
Phase: Phi = ( 2π / λ_ref ) * ( ∫ n_eff d ell ). - Dimensional closure: run I70-dim_check across the volume; publication requires p_dim = 1.0 with check_dim_report.json.
V. Dependencies & Alignment
- Data: Dataset Card Ch.3/4/6/7/8/11/12 — align schema, splits, coverage, and lineage.
- Parameters: Parameter Card Ch.4/6/8/9/10/11 — align freshness.policy and cov_group.
- Error: Error Budget Card Ch.5/6/8/9/10/11 — align coverage and covariance conventions.
- Pipeline: Pipeline Card Ch.3/6/9/11/12 — align interfaces, gates, and release layout.
VI. Gates & Stops
- G1 Schema completeness | G2 Citation compliance | G3 Path conventions | G4 Dimensional closure (p_dim = 1.0) | G5 Freshness | G6 Coverage consistency | G7 Covariance consistency (Σ PD) | G8 Uniqueness & acyclicity.
- Trigger S1–S5 (dimension/freshness/path/covariance/citation failures) to block release; if necessary, tag [Restricted] and publish qualitative results & diagnostics only.
VII. Deliverables & Manifests
- Required: model_manifest.yaml, model_overview.md, equations.md, train_config.yaml, model_uq.yaml, uq_summary.json, eval_plan.yaml, scorecard.json, inference_openapi.yaml, inference.proto, perf_report.csv, monitoring_rules.yaml, rollback_fsm.yaml, check_dim_report.json, validate_report.json, audit.jsonl, SIGNATURE.asc.
- Release layout follows PTN_EXPORT/ and DS_EXPORT/ norms from Pipeline/Dataset Cards; all artifacts carry checksum and signature.
VIII. Style & Layout
- Section headings in bold Roman numerals; bullets with “- space”; ordered lists with “1. space”.
- Dual-export figures (PDF/SVG and PNG/JPG), DPI ≥ 300; captions include units, see[]/version, and coverage mode; path figures annotate Δell and delta_form.
IX. Pre-Flight Checklist
- Dependency closure: Data/Parameter/Error/Pipeline citations compliant, anchor coverage ≥ 90%.
- Maths conventions: parenthesized expressions, explicit path gamma(ell)/d ell, p_dim = 1.0.
- Coverage unified: k/alpha/quantile consistent across the volume; Σ PD and aligned with cov_group.
- Quality gates: /validate passed G1–G8 with no S1–S5; non-compliance tagged [Restricted].
- Manifests complete: model_manifest.yaml, check_dim_report.json, validate_report.json, audit.jsonl, and signatures present.
