Chapter 1 — Scope of Use & Dependencies
I. Scope of Use
- Experiment/observation types: timing / imaging / spectral / mixed.
- Operating domain: paraxial, small-angle, slowly varying medium; within coherence windows T_coh/L_coh/B_coh such that |∇ n_eff|·L_coh ≪ 1.
- Metric coverage: arrival time T_arr, phase Phi, paraxial conservation error ε_flux, mass-conservation deviation ΔM, robust residual Q_res, etc.
- Mandatory for path quantities: whenever T_arr/Phi are involved, the text must explicitly show path gamma(ell) and measure d ell, and the data/metadata must record delta_form ∈ {general, factored}.
- Out of scope: strong nonlinearity/dispersion/full-wave coupling beyond the coherence window; enter [Restricted] and publish qualitative conclusions and diagnostics only.
II. Scenarios & Thresholds
Scenario | Primary quantities/metrics | Key thresholds | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Timing | T_arr, Q_res | p_dim = 1.0; clock_state = locked; ` | δt_abs |
Imaging | ε_flux, p_dim | Paraxial: ε_flux → 0 @ O(θ^2); Δell ≤ Δell_max | Verify via conservation heatmap |
Spectral | Phi, r_phi | λ_ref required; dispersion n_eff(λ) controlled | Fisher–z intervals |
Mixed | Combination | All sub-chain thresholds satisfied | Cross-domain consistency |
Unified display forms:
T_arr = ( 1 / c_ref ) * ( ∫ n_eff d ell ) or T_arr = ( ∫ ( n_eff / c_ref ) d ell );
Phi = ( 2π / λ_ref ) * ( ∫ n_eff d ell ).
III. Dependencies & Alignment
- Core (required): EFT.WP.Core.Terms v1.0, EFT.WP.Core.Equations v1.1, EFT.WP.Core.Metrology v1.0, EFT.WP.Core.DataSpec v1.0.
Examples: See "EFT.WP.Core.Equations v1.1" Ch.2 S20-1/S21-2; See "EFT.WP.Core.Metrology v1.0" check_dim; See "EFT.WP.Core.DataSpec v1.0" TARR. - Metrology/Methods (strong): Metrology.TimeBase v1.0, Metrology.Sync v1.0, Metrology.Instrument v1.0, Metrology.PathCorrection v1.0, Methods.Repro v1.0.
- Template alignment: PTN Template v1.0 (Ch.7/9/11), Experimental Protocol Card Template v1.0 (Ch.5/7/9/11).
IV. Citations & Versioning
- Fixed syntax: See "<Volume> vX.Y" <Chapter> <Anchor>, prioritizing P/S/M/I anchors; keep text and data-side see[]/references[] consistent.
- Stability line: public releases cite v1.* only; if v0.* is cited, mark “draft / non-committal” prominently in text.
- Coverage: anchor coverage ≥ 90%; external links and aliases are forbidden.
V. Preconditions & Compliance
- Dimensional closure: p_dim = 1.0; exports include check_dim_report.json.
- Sync freshness: clock_state = locked; |ts_start − calib.timestamp| ≤ τ_calib.
- Path consistency: len(gamma_ell) = len(d_ell) = len(n_eff) ≥ 2; Δell meets sampling constraints.
- Symbols & conflicts: bare c, T, n are forbidden; use c_ref, T_arr (or specific quantity), n_eff (or n with explicit unit); T_fil ≠ T_trans, n ≠ n_eff.
VI. Outputs & Interfaces
- Required deliverables: error_budget.csv, uncertainty.md, check_dim_report.json; uncertainty.yaml as needed.
- Interfaces (optional): I80-prop_delta, I81-prop_mc, I83-coverage, I70-dim_check, I60-export_manifest.
- Consistency: align with the PTN_EXPORT/ layout; keep text and export see[]/references[]/version consistent.
VII. Checklist
- Text and data see[]/references[] use “volume + version + anchor”, anchor coverage ≥ 90%.
- Path expressions explicitly show gamma(ell) and d ell; delta_form recorded; len(path) ≥ 2.
- p_dim = 1.0, clock_state = locked, τ_calib compliant.
- Clear mapping of metrics to thresholds (τ_T, r_phi_min, ε_flux guard, Q_res band).
- error_budget.csv / uncertainty.md / check_dim_report.json complete; units and dimensions explicit in figures and table headers.
- If [Restricted], tag all figures and list triggers; publish qualitative results only.
